Job Description

The Centre for Nature-based Climate Solutions at the National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Assistant in Blue Carbon Science. Prior experience in mangroves/seagrass research is an advantage. The position will be for a period of one year with the possibility of renewal subject to performance review. Singapore citizens and permanent residents are preferred.

The main responsibilities of the position include:

  • Work within a team of researchers conducting blue carbon field measurements throughout Southeast Asia
  • Collect and manage field data on blue carbon stocks and gaseous fluxes, with a particular focus on seagrass and mangrove ecosystems.
  • Liaise with corporate and academic partners interested in Blue Carbon

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, geography, biogeochemistry or a similar discipline.

Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Prior field research experience in geography or wetland ecology
  • Familiarity with working in wet lab settings 
  • Data management and processing skills
  • Willingness to undertake fieldwork for extended periods in field sites across Southeast Asia 
  • Highly organised, proactive, resourceful and have good interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to work independently 

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of biogeochemical fluxes
  • Strong quantitative skills in R, Python or similar
  • Experience with basic laboratory techniques such as sediment grain size analysis and soil carbon estimation
  • Field research experience in coastal ecosystems
  • Prior experience in the measurement of soil carbon stocks and gas fluxes, including measurements of photosynthesis and soil respiration/gas flux
  • Prior experience in organising and conducting field research overseas

An MOE-funded Research Assistant position is available in A/P Cynthia He’s Molecular and Cellular Parasitology Lab. The lab is interested in organelle biology during cell development and stresses. A motivated candidate will be trained to work with experienced researchers on various projects.

The key responsibilities include–

  • Management of lab safety, procurement and inventory.
  • Assistance on research projects include protein expression, purification, antibody production etc.
  • Maintenance of key instruments.

Qualifications–

  • A bachelor’s degree in life sciences or a related field.
  • Prior experience of research in a cell or molecular biology lab.
  • A good command of writing and speaking in English is preferred.

The Department of Biological Sciences (DBS) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for an educator track faculty position as Lecturer in Biotechnology. Candidates with evidence of high-quality teaching, a good publication record, and relevant working and teaching experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. The department has exceptional breadth and interdisciplinary strength, with vigorous biomedical, agricultural, and molecular biotechnology research programs. The MSc in Biotechnology program reflects that diversity, building on a foundation in molecular biology with rigorous training in genomic data science, advanced molecular genetics, protein design, and specialist courses. The successful candidate should be able to both teach existing courses in genetic engineering and genomic data analysis and contribute to curriculum design for the program itself. Courses may incorporate programming in R or Python.

Job Description

The Experimental Marine Ecology Laboratory (EMEL) within the Department of Biological Sciences at the National University of Singapore is seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on a major new project “Shore Protection with Integrated Nature-based Solutions—Eco (SPINS-Eco)”. This interdisciplinary research aims to determine the optimal conditions for mangrove, seagrass, coral, and macroalgal establishment and growth within hybrid coastal protection systems in Singapore. 

The main responsibilities of the position include:
•    Designing protocols to quantify biophysical conditions of both modified and natural tropical coastal habitats 
•    Carry out intertidal and subtidal biodiversity surveys 
•    Conduct growth and stress experiments 
•    Coordinate with sister projects: “SPINS-Hydro” and “SPINS-Meta”
•    Prepare research manuscripts, reports and presentations
•    Mentor graduate and undergraduate students 

Qualifications

Applicants should have completed a PhD in marine biology or ecology. They should have a history of publications consummate with their career stage. Research skills including leadership, excellent statistical and analytical skills, outstanding writing abilities, and the capacity to work within a diverse group of ecologists and marine scientists, are desirable. Candidates with experience in hybrid shorelines, ecological engineering, and related nature-based solutions will be given priority.

Qualifications:
Hold, or is soon to obtain, a PhD in marine biology or ecology  

Skills:
Experimental design and analysis (including expertise in R) 
Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
Excellent time and resource management 

Experience:
Demonstrated ability to conduct experimental work in field, lab, and aquaria
Familiarity with nature-based solutions/ecological engineering
Certified and experienced scuba divers would be preferred

    Job Description

    The Molecular Breeding Laboratory at the Lee Hiok Kwee Functional Genomics Laboratories, Department of Biological Sciences led by Associate Professor CHEW Fook Tim, is currently looking for a Research Assistant to join the project on the Molecular Breeding of Leafy Greens for Indoor Farming.


    The main responsibilities of the position include:
    (i) Germplasm evaluation and assessment,
    (ii) Key Phenotypic Definition and Evaluation,
    (iii) Characterization of Genetic Control,
    (iv) Cultivar Development,
    (v) Integration of Genomic Data into Cultivation Processes, and
    (vi) Multi-Location Trial Evaluations.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications / Discipline:
    • Good Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in relevant fields. 


    Skills:
    • Able to code in R would be advantages (could also learn on the job).
    • Strong motivation and leadership in pursuing challenging scientific questions.
    • An ability to work well with interdisciplinary colleagues.
    • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Good time and resource management skills.


    Experience:  
    • Experience in some bioinformatics / genetics / statistics would be useful. 
    • Experience in mentoring and training junior researchers (including undergraduates and polytechnic interns).
