Minor Programme in Botany
A Minor programme offered by the Department of Biological Sciences, in collaboration with Singapore Botanic Gardens.
Updated 12 July 2024 – As LSM4351 is no longer an elective option for BES programme, the clause on the elective segment of the Minor in Botany for students reading BES has been adjusted to:
- Students reading Bachelor of Environmental Studies must pass GESS1016 or LSM2254 as one of the two elective courses.
The Minor in Botany aims to instil students a systematic and critical perspective of learning the plant and fungal sciences, with not only the technical aspects in morphology, ecology, taxonomy, physiology and developmental biology, but also the social aspects in community impacts, economic costs and environmental conservation. On completing this Minor programme, students will be able to:
- Describe and differentiate the rich diversity of plant forms and functions.
- Apply the principles of taxonomy and systematics to carry out accurate plant identification.
- Apply and demonstrate knowledge in botanical, fungal, and horticultural field and laboratory works.
- Appreciate and articulate the values and impacts of plants and fungi on human societies.
