More than just the powerhouse of the cell: Mitochondrial Biology
Speaker: Associate Professor Liou Yih-Cherng
Availability: May – June 2023
Synopsis: Mitochondria are small organelles, compared to nucleus, in the cells. Since mitochondria are the main location for ATP production and responsible for energy production within the cell, Mitochondria have been labelled the powerhouse of the cell, playing very important roles in cellular respiration. With many recent exciting research discoveries, we learn that mitochondria are indeed very dynamic organelles and play critical roles more than just the powerhouse of the cell. In this talk, I would share the recent findings and briefly discuss functional mitochondria in health and human diseases.
