Kent Ridge Walk

Kent Ridge Walk

Organized by the Department of Biological Sciences, National University of Singapore

Why attend this learning journey?
Kent Ridge is part of the southern ridges of Singapore and an integral geographical feature of the NUS Kent Ridge campus. This field trip takes you on a journey to learn about the history of Kent Ridge, and why it is has become an Adinandra belukar type of forest.

Although it may appear to be an anonymous green brown landscape, after an intimate introduction to the ecosystem here, participants will learn about many species of plants and perhaps, a few animal species if their lucky. In addition, underlying ecological mechanisms that support this ecosystem will be introduced, through the clues presented in the plant morphology.

The learning journey is designed with both an outdoor and indoor component. Participants will be taught on how to use binoculars to spot for birds, animals and plants at a distance and how to use the stereomicroscope to observe plant specimens in the lab.

As these flora and fauna are common Singapore residents, this field trip would encourage participants to better appreciate the nature found at our doorstep and play their part in keeping them safe.

Who is eligible?
Pre-university students from local secondary and tertiary schools. Schools are encouraged to submit group registrations for their students. A minimum participation of 15 students is required to commence a session.

How long will the learning journey take?
