SUrF

Welcome to SUrF

Research Centre on Sustainable Urban Farming

SUrF focuses on sustainable urban farming research with a core team from the fields of Science, Engineering and Computing. The fields covered by this select team ranges from plant science, genomics and gene editing, microbiomes, food science, materials and polymer science, sensor technology, data science, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) expertise for indoor farming. The team will initiate multidisciplinary programs to build a cross-boundary, sustainable platform for improving plant performance at both pre-harvest and post-harvest stages, including harvest yield, nutritional profile and safety assurance.

Our Facilities

Research at SUrF is conducted in the laboratories of the participating NUS PIs and our two indoor farming research facilities. These facilities are well equipped to grow plants under different light wavelengths or precise environmental conditions. Our core research facilities will house state-of-the-art equipment (e.g., 3-D multispectral plant scanner for plant phenotyping, photosynthesis analytical system and hyperspectral imaging for early detection of disease and nutritional content). These facilities serve to support the multidisciplinary projects undertaken by PIs associated with SUrF and their industrial collaborators.
