Topic: “Making Life: how do complex shapes emerge during development?”
Speaker: Assistant Professor Saunders, Timothy Edward
Synopsis:
How we are shaped during embryo development has been a longstanding question in science. Animals develop from a single fertilised cell. This cell undergoes numerous rounds of division and distinct tissues begin to form. From these, organs take shape, all with specific morphologies. Here, I will discuss how modern biology techniques, combined with inputs from physics and engineering, are helping us to start to answer how complex shape emerges.
