We extended our studies of myotoxins to other cytolytic proteins. We identified the common cytolytic region in proteins isolated from viruses, bacteria, and most phyla of animals, including man. This region consists of a hydrophobic site next to a cationic site. Since then this concept has been strongly supported by the data from various laboratories.
