Metalloproteinases and Disintegrins

These proteins form important group of inhibitors of platelet aggregation.  In addition, several metalloproteinases also cause hemorrhage.

  • We showed that the inhibition of platelet aggregation by α-fibrinogenase is independent of fibrinogen cleavage.
  • We identified the presence of a common precursor for disintegrins and metalloproteinases and defined the presence of various structural domains.

Schematic Diagram of structural domains in the common precursor of metalloproteinases and disintegrins. P- proteolytic cleavage site; Domain B has the metal binding site and the active site; Domain C shows the availability of RGD sequence on the surface for interaction with integrins
