Ryan McCleary, PhD

I am broadly interested in evolution and ecology, particularly where snakes are involved. I am specifically interested in the evolution of venom in snakes, including what factors have brought about the wide array of toxins found within snake venoms and what is the actual phenotypic diversity found in nature. To examine this, I utilize techniques ranging from field collection and venom extraction to transcriptomics and proteomics.
