Wun Cheng Mun

My undergraduate research project was focused on the structure and folding of a novel three-finger toxin from the eastern green mamba snake (Dendroaspis angusticeps).

The aim of my project is to determine the mechanism of action of beta-cardiotoxin, a three-finger toxin isolated from the venom of Ophiophagus hannah that can lower heart rate.

Project: I worked on the regulation of expression of two parallel prothrombin activator genes found in common australian brown snake. These are the factor V, an intrinsic blood coagulation factor found in mammals and the Pseutarin C, an extrinsic blood coagulation factor found in the snake venom.

Project: My project involved the study of in vitro protein folding. The proteins studied were that of conotoxins, small disulfide-rich peptides isolated from the venom of Conus snails.Techniques involved in my research included protein synthesis and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

Project: I am Josh. I did my honours year project in Professor Kini’s lab in the year 2008/2009. I did some basic research work on snake venom gland transcriptome. The snake venom that I worked on was from Bungarus flaviceps.
