Welcome to the Biophysical Fluorescence Laboratory!
We are a multi-disciplinary research group bringing together people from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering and Computer Science. Our aim is to develop fluorescence, single molecule sensitive imaging and spectroscopy techniques and make them accessible to a wide range of users. Our research is centered on the investigation of biomolecular actions and functions under physiological relevant conditions to gain insights into important biological questions. At the moment we concentrate on three topics:
1) Construction and development of new optical tools
2) Fluorescence measurements in tissues and organisms
3) Biomolecular interactions
SRRF 'n' TIRF

Imaging FCS
Imaging FCS, a multiplexed version of FCS provides concentration and diffusion coefficient maps. The essential steps behind the development of Imaging FCS was the introduction of TIRF and SPIM based illumination schemes that allowed the illumination of single selective planes in a sample and the availability of fast sensitive array detectors that could record fluorescence intensities with single molecule sensitivity with at least millisecond time resolution.
FCS movie montage
Here we directly look at membrane dynamics which is used as a matric for the peptide induced membrane deformation. This approach helped us to decode a time and concentration dependent interaction of monomeric human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP) with model and live cell membranes.
FCS diffusion law
The FCS diffusion law is based on the idea that the dependence of the diffusion coefficient on the area of observation contains information of the structure of the medium in which diffusion takes place.

Lat A treatment shows disturbed cytoskeleton for lifeact. In the case of PMT probe, the images do not show a difference but the FCS diffusion laws show a difference in intercept

FCS in organisms
Here we show autocorrelation curves obtained by microinjection of EGFP in motor neurons and muscle fibres of zebrafish
Liver vasculogenesis
